The Switchblade MIPS is our new integral chin guard with removable chin guard that meets ASTM downhill certification. The Switchblade is fully optimized for downhill use and therefore meets all required standards: the CPSC, EN-1078 and ASTM-1952-DH, both with and without the chin guard! The mechanism to release the chin guard is simple: push the button, flip up and pull out. This instantly increases the helmet's ability to vent during the upward journey. The full Roc Loc Air DH clamping system takes care of the fit on the head.

ADVANCES IN CYCLING HELMET DEVELOPMENT
All Giro helmets are designed to absorb as much energy as possible on impact and meet the current European standard: EN 1078. The new MIPS technology aims to eliminate the rotational forces that act on the head in the event of a crash. When hit at any angle, the MIPS system allows the EPS shell of the helmet to rotate independently around the rider's head. Although this movement is only on the order of a few millimeters, we believe that MIPS technology significantly reduces the amount of rotational force that could otherwise be transmitted to the brain.
WHAT IS MIPS (Multidirectional Impact Protection System) and how does it work?
MIPS is a slippery liner between the EPS shell (helmet body) and the inner liners. In the event of an angled impact (for example, if you catch your head on a branch), the EPS shell of the helmet will roll a few millimeters over the MIPS layer, protecting your head and brain from a violent rotational jerk.
