The new Insurgent Spherical integral helmet provides the high level of protection required by top Enduro World Series (EWS) or Red Bull Rampage riders. In developing this helmet, Giro's design and engineering team focused not only on protection, but also on the best possible ventilation (50% better than the previous Disciple Mips model), and they didn't forget to wick sweat away from the forehead. Two sets of cheek pads with different thicknesses allow you to adjust the helmet for a perfect fit. They are secured with a snap-on system that allows easy and head- and neck-friendly removal in the event of an accident. At 1040 grams in size M/L, the Insurgent is 200 grams lighter than the previous Disciple Mips model, even though the new model is better equipped.
An important feature of the Insurgent helmet is the advanced Spherical Technology Powered by Mips protection system. This unique system, developed by the Giro brand in collaboration with Mips, works on the principle of a hinge - the helmet consists of two parts (hemispheres) that are connected by elastomers and slide over each other just like a hinge. This allows the outer layer to rotate around the inner layer in the event of an impact, reducing the forces that would otherwise act directly on the brain. This design solution completely replaces the classic plastic Mips liner used by Mips helmets without Spherical technology. And on top of that, there is the Progressive Layering technology, which consists of two different hardnesses for the outer and inner layers. While the outer layer, made up of EPS foam, is harder and thus ready to absorb impacts at high speeds, the inner layer of EPP foam, on the other hand, is softer and has rebound properties to be able to absorb impacts at lower speeds as much as possible.
Other features include the patented Flex Gasket system - this is a softer material along the bottom edge of the helmet, which is designed to reduce the force of impact the helmet can have on the collarbone in certain situations. The adjustable visor is secured with three screws (sides and center) and no tools are needed to change its position. The screws are plastic so that, for safety reasons, in the event of an impact, they will easily break off and the plate will fly off (the remnants of the screws are removed with an Allen key). The action camera is mounted on the underside of the plate, which will be stable even when driving with the camera mounted, thanks to the central grip (there is a fixed position for mounting the plate to install the camera).
