LIGHTWEIGHT, COOL AND FUTURE-FRIENDLY
We've been creating lightweight and airy shorts since 2011, but we've always hit the limits of the compromise between durability and light weight. That's why we had to go back and find a different, better way. We looked at what our shorts really need to be able to do: they must absolutely hold the cycling liner in position, despite the extra weight, they must not be see-through and they must be able to withstand at least one season of really hard riding. So instead of knit, we designed a new fabric that can save 30% of the weight, while maintaining the same muscle support and transparency.
We then worked with a world-leading manufacturer to create a construction and material that is progressively softer and lighter towards the knees. We were able to create a fabric that weighs only 90 g/m2 in the last part versus 220 g/m2 for standard materials. While this fabric is extremely light it retains excellent abrasion resistance in the crotch area. We can't guarantee that they'll withstand scrubbing on an asphalt road, but they'll withstand a lot.
Keep in mind that these pants will save you around 50g in weight when dry, but absorb 30% less moisture when you start to sweat. So if you put on the Alpe d'Huez, you'll carry 150 grams less than normal on the hike.
These pants don't compromise on comfort either. We've used our top-of-the-line Progetto X² AIR liner with seamless construction, also our unique striped mesh braces, the same as on the Free Aero Race, and also the flat finishing hems to keep everything in place. But the finish is also what sets them apart. The logos are laser burnt into the surface of the fabric for a very discreet and luxurious tone-on-tone effect. You don't need brightly coloured logos in these pants to shout that you've achieved the ultimate in cycling comfort and performance.
