Look X-Track Gravel is an SPD pedal with the best weight to contact area ratio on the market for efficiency and safety. An SPD pedal must respond to a multitude of different situations. Look's goal was to find a solution that would allow the most efficient transfer of the rider's energy. Therefore, Look decided that the weight to contact area ratio would play a primary role in the product specification. The preload can be quickly and easily adjusted from 6 to 14 according to the cyclist's requirements. In general, the larger the contact patch, the more efficiently the energy is transferred. On the other hand, the larger the contact area, the more the pedal weighs. The challenge for designers, therefore, was to identify the zones that are useful for energy transfer, and then optimize the pedal design to reduce any unused ones.OPTIMAL CONTACT AREA The lateral contact support guides the foot in finding the pedal and provides a point of contact even if the shoe has not yet locked in.
