We started with a list of things we didn't like about current jackets and set about addressing them, and we made our best jacket yet.The first issue we addressed was moisture management. Even the best materials currently available provide a good level of breathability, but fail to wick away the moisture generated by high intensity riding. So we invented a two-layer construction that allows you to open up the outer windproof layer while keeping the insulation layer closed and close to the body. This allows air to flow inside the jacket and wick away moisture while preventing cold air from coming in direct contact with your skin. On a long climb, you can open the outer layer completely to allow moisture to escape, and when you start to descend, close the outer layer and you'll be completely dry and warm inside. It works so well that sometimes it feels like magic. New for this year is a softer, warmer 3D insulation layer that provides more warmth, better moisture wicking and a better fit.Next we focused on vents: at the neck, around the waist and especially the wrists. The high collar is shaped to move with you, whether you're standing or in a lounging aero position, and like a January hero, attacking your buddies. Around the waist, we've created an elasticated piece with a silicone hem that completely prevents air from getting under the jacket, without it puckering or sagging. New this season is a brand new double-layered wrist cuff. The inner cuff goes under the glove and fits snugly against your wrist, while the outer, overlaps the glove in case of rain, so that drops rolling down the jacket don't end up inside the glove.The perfect winter jacket should of course protect you well in wet conditions, which is why we've used GORE-TEX INFINIUM™ WINDSTOPPER® along with waterproof bonding at the seams on the shoulders. Other seams are hidden from direct water flow, and the water-repellent finish of the fabric is enough to prevent more moisture from entering the bottom. We call it"essentially waterproof" and using our own subjective judgement, we've struck a balance between water protection, breathability and comfort. We don't claim that no drop will ever penetrate the bottom, but we've done long rides in real rain and stayed completely dry. All of these features make it a favorite jacket of our riders and the most versatile performance jacket for cold weather training we've ever created.
